Hidden Gem is my baby,  it’s a "gem" of a  property, tucked away in a quiet enclave in Inch Marlow, Christ Church,  a one of a kind space that you won’t see anywhere else in Barbados. From the moment you enter the gates you get a glimpse of what’s to come from the  beautiful pastel yellow exterior to the gardens and the water feature, til you walk through the doors and you’re transported into an elegant, well laid out, beautifully decorated space I think you will absolutely love. I love all things decorating and despite the many challenges I encountered, I  thoroughly enjoyed transforming it from the dilapidated state it was to the Gem I think it is today.

Everyone thought I was crazy, no insane, ( it is a stronger word) to buy it b/c it looked like there was no redeeming qualities but from the moment I walked in, I fell in love. I had a vision, I had the imagination for this house that only I saw.  It had everything I wanted, spacious rooms, a pool, ample outdoor space and a lovely Oceanview from various parts of the house. Just needed lots of TLC and even more work.  Bear in mind, I still lived thousands of miles away in the US so we closed on the house while we were in Atlanta.  I  browsed the internet, Pinterest and IG for ideas, got my collage of pictures, chose my favorites, put my own spin on them and forged ahead. Even though  I purchased most of my items from there, I brought with me most of the furnishings from my house but OMG I had 7 rooms to furnish. I collected and sourced my decor, furnishings and appliances for almost a year. needless to say I ended up stuffing 4 huge containers full to the brim of everything I thought I would need, to be shipped via ocean.  I came back in May 2016 to oversee the construction and renovations and this is where it all began.

I knocked down a few walls, expanded a few rooms, added a full length balcony to appreciate the the Oceanview, refurbished old furniture, chose the color of the sea with combinations of various blues, mixed old with new, cheap with expensive, spray painted pieces to match the decor and created amazing outdoor spaces I hoped everyone would enjoy. I wanted to create a space that is warm, inspiring, creative, inviting and that evoked feelings of happiness. I feel I have accomplished that.

I have been told it’s a South Coast house with a West Coast feel. I like that comparison. :) I wanted a home that was contemporary, elegant, sophisticated and that elicited a WOW when you walked through the door, yet comfortable with that homey feel, so I’ve provided every amenity to make it as comfortable as possible.  We have Bluetooth speakers in the rooms, coffee/tea stations, complimentary WiFi  throughout the house, surround sound speakers outdoors, Amazon Echo, bar area, multiple outdoor spaces for you to enjoy, beautiful garden with koi pond, lounge chairs, pool & beach towels, pillow top beds, wraps/eye masks and serenity.

It's still a work in progress as I am constantly changing things around and sprucing things up since my biggest challenge is the rust and corrosion that comes from living on an island and being so close to the sea, the upkeep and maintenance is ooh la la (nope that's not good) but for now it's home and I love it (though I don't love the mosquitoes) :(  but I am over the moon excited when others love and enjoy it as much as I do.

So even if you don’t need a room, consider hosting an event at Hidden Gem, a New Level of Accommodations, a New Level of Luxury. I want you to come as guests, leave as friends.

I managed to dredge up a few old pics of what it looked like before I transformed it.  Yikes!
